The Model Enginer Beam Engine

This is the last Engine That I Have built It was Constructed using Plans that were published in Model Engineer Magazine in Oct 1959-May of 1960. It is a Victorian era engine Circa mid to late 19th Century.This is an elevation drawing from the plans

The engine is made with several castings.Here are the patterns that I made from wood.These are used to form the sand molds. This one is for the flywheel.

This one is for the baseplate

This one is for the Beam

This is for the Governor Support Once the sand molds are made They are filled with molten Iron to create castings.

The Main Column has a Roman feel to it.

The connecting rod. Cutting the flutes was a real challenge

Connecting rod with top end bearings installed.The assembly is held together with tapered keys witch was common practice in the 19th century.

Crankshaft (minus the crank) and main bearings and supports

After approximately 500 hrs. of work and over 200 individually machined parts this is the final product.

The tank in the lower left of the photo is for water the pump pulls water from the bottom and returns it through the tube at the top
